Special Educational Needs & Disabilities

Bluebell Primary School follows the Norfolk SEND Local Offer and the SEN Code of Practice.

At Bluebell Primary School we value all children as individuals. We are committed to an inclusive approach and respect that children have differing needs, learn in different ways and at different paces.

At Bluebell Primary School we believe that all pupils should have equal access to a broad and balanced curriculum that is differentiated to meet all individual needs and ability. We strive to make sure that all children are able to be successful and reach their full potential.

In practice, this means:

  We will identify a child’s needs at the earliest possible stage.
  The school gathers information about the child from parental concerns, speaking to the class teacher and identifying if the child is working below age expectations.
  Initial assessments are carried out, in- class strategies are put in place and, where appropriate, interventions are used. If all of this leads to an identified need, then the child is listed on the SEND register and support for that child is reviewed regularly.
  In some cases, further assessments may be required from external agencies such as an educational psychologist, specialist teacher or the school nurse.
  For those children who are likely to need an ongoing high level of support during their time in education, the school will apply for an Educational Health Care Plan for them.  If it is decided that the child would be better placed in a more specialised provision, the school will work with the EHCP coordinator and parents to support finding a place. The school will work closely with parents in order to achieve  successful outcomes for all children.

There is a wealth of experience and expertise within the school staff including those trained in reading interventions, maths recovery, ELSA (emotional literacy support assistant), Norfolk Steps, Nurture training and Speech and Language interventions. However, we are constantly learning and adapting our practise to ensure it meets the needs of each individual that we have in the school.
